Happy birthday Alan. Three persons influenced my life when I decided to let go of my dragon. John Harrison showed me that there is a way out. Ruth – showed me that all i have to do is to let it go. And Alan – who did the most to convince me that overcoming stuttering is possible because the stuttering he described, the severity of it, this was me. And I always had this belief that other people may be able to recover because they don’t stutter as much. And that I have this special kind of stuttering which nothing can cure. If not for my three guides and especially Alan I would still have to call my doctor and entertain receptionists by saying ”hhhhhhhhhhhhhh” into the receiver. I would still dread people asking me my name. I would still dread people asking my son’s name. I would still blush and feel miserable if anyone said the dreadful word ”stuttering” and so on and so on. But you, Alan, always was this guiding light and every time I felt a little bit down, I would tell myself, ”Alan did it, and so will I.” I wish you to remain as young and as energetic and as charming as i imagine you. When i was young I thought old men are all grumpy and boring. I was wrong. But yet again, you are not old. Maybe one day you wil share with us a secret of your eternal youth.
